I have to give props to those who can somehow manage to run outside in this frozen tundra that NYC has become. I made my way to the gym this AM (to obviously work out indoors) and was smacked in the face with windy 17-degree weather during my commute, le sigh. I was ready to jump in a cab, go back home, and hide under the covers. I was texting with my friend who is training for the NYC half-marathon about the weather and how in the world she manages to train. As she simply put it: winter running clothes. See people, no excuses!
And then I witnessed something unusual.
On my 2:00 pm Starbucks run I saw a man sprinting down 2nd avenue in a cheetah bikini holding a 90’s disc-man. How he survived basically being naked in 20-degree weather, who knows! The cheetah outfit is another thing but whoooweeee! Maybe my friend will see him at the half-marathon, heh heh.
I had an intense arm workout this morning that has left me feeling incredibly sore. After a 12 minute warm-up on the stair-master I did 15 sets and 3 reps of the following exercises:
-Tricep Push-Down (overhand & underhand grip)
-Lying Tricep Extension (Skullcrusher)
I managed to use heavier weights today but I would begin with a weight that allows you to feel a burn while practicing good form. Good form is crucial–you don’t want to hurt yourself. My brother recommended this workout to me and it’s been one of my favorites!
As always a great workout should be followed by a great meal.
I diced persian cucumbers, tomatoes, pickles (I’m addicted and slightly weird) and mixed them with seasoned quinoa. A delicious and complete meal.
To my friends in the cold, stay warm!
